How will it all end?

What is in store over the horizon? What does the future hold?

The Bible speaks of things to come. After a time of great distress, God will create a new heaven and earth to be enjoyed by those who follow him. Like its account of the beginning, countless people have found meaning and hope in the biblical belief that God would heal creation’s brokenness.

Scientists and technologists have also offered striking visions of the future, ranging from scientific utopias to nightmarish fates of our own making. At times, some people have viewed biblical and scientific predictions as closely related. In other cases, they argue the Bible and science offer vastly different visions of the future.

“For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind.”
Isaiah 65:17

This exhibition explores the Bible’s role in the historical relationship between science and religion. Many today believe that religious faith and the natural sciences are very separate subjects. Indeed, many consider the Bible to be an obstacle to scientific progress. Yet, for centuries, faith and the study of nature were very much entangled. At times, biblical beliefs helped encourage people to study the world. They even influenced the rise of science as we know it today.
