ur Universe
How did it all begin?

What happened at the very beginning? How did the sun, the moon, the stars, and our planet come into existence? How did space, time, and energy arise?

These questions are among the biggest, and most ancient, anyone can ask. Modern observations and discoveries have revealed more details about our universe and its beginning than our ancestors could ever have imagined.

What has been the Bible’s relationship with this growing knowledge? For some, the Bible’s descriptions of creation have been foundational to the way they think about these questions, while others think outside of this framework. Today, the similarities and differences between the biblical account and modern cosmology have sometimes sparked intense debate.

This exhibition explores the Bible’s role in the historical relationship between science and religion. Many today believe that religious faith and the natural sciences are very separate subjects. Indeed, many consider the Bible to be an obstacle to scientific progress. Yet, for centuries, faith and the study of nature were very much entangled. At times, biblical beliefs helped encourage people to study the world. They even influenced the rise of science as we know it today.
